Last Year I Was Reading…

Hey everyone! Every Throwback Thursday, I’m hoping to look back! What I (and you!) do is:

Take your current read and compare it to what you reading this exact time last year. Which one do you like better? What is different about the books? Any special facts/things you want to make note of or bring attention to? Be sure to link it back to my blog so I can see them!

This year I’m reading…

Last year I was reading…

Thoughts

Well! Two pretty different books, The Holdout is a legal thriller, and Wilder Girls is a YA horror/dystopian novel. Both definitely have very interesting concepts.

The Holdout is about a 10-year reunion special where Maya had served on a jury on a high profile crime, and now she must prove her innocence when one of the other jury members is found dead.

Wilder Girls is about a secluded school where everyone has been under quarantine…for 18 months. And there’s no end in sight. There are horrors that lie beyond the school fence, and Rory is desperate to find her friend that has been missing, and must be brave if she’s going to find answers.

Although I liked the concept of Wilder Girls, I just felt like it was missing a certain something for me, but I definitely plan on trying Burn Our Bodies Down, which is her second novel! Kayla @ BooksandLala has described it as more commercial-fiction-ish, so I think I’ll probably like it better than Wilder Girls, but we’ll see!

The Holdout is the September #readingaddictsbuddyread pick! It’s been a long haul for me though – I started it on the 21st, and I’m on page like 98 right now. I just haven’t had the time at night to read like I normally do, but still! I’m not invested in the story yet, to be honest. Like we know who died, what happened a decade ago, and the implications it had on the lives of the jury members, but for me so far, it’s just like “ok….so? Now what?” It’s hard to explain! I’m positive that this will pick up, but WHEN!?

Have you read either of these books? What did you think!?
